Third SUSTAIN E-learning Course Starts Tomorrow
The e-learning course on Sustainable Energy Planning and Low Carbon Development, the third and last installment from the SUSTAIN Project, officially starts tomorrow! The e-learning course is happy to welcome 68 participants from all over the world who will learn how to plan and develop urban settlements and communities from the sustainable energy and low carbon points of view.
The e-learning course is organized by the European Academy of Bozen/Bolzano, Italy through Dr. Daniele Vettorato and Garfield Wayne Hunter, group leader and researcher, respectively of the Urban and Regional Energy Systems. Six other energy experts will serve as lecturers for the e-learning course that will run from June 7 to August 31, 2016.
About the E-Learning Course
The first part of the course introduces the students to the main definitions related to the Sustainable Energy concept and Low carbon development. Secondly, the course guides to the acquisition of the main concepts related to the Sustainable energy planning and Low carbon development. The third part introduces to a set of tools to apply the concepts to real contexts. In particular, examples, exercises and case studies are provided as well as links to existing operational tools and relevant literature.
The course aims to enable participants to: (1) to understand the definitions and keywords of Sustainable energy planning and Low carbon development, (2) To introduce to the key concepts of Sustainable energy planning and Low carbon development and to their integration in the traditional urban planning discipline, (3) to introduce to the main urban planning tools for the Sustainable energy and Low carbon development and (4) to conduct empirical case studies to critically reflect and discuss the key topics of Sustainable energy planning and Low carbon development.
At the end of the course, participants should be able to describe and reflect critically on the sustainable energy planning and low carbon development. They will develop analytical understanding of the concepts, methods and tools for the sustainable energy and low carbon development of urban settlement.
Participants who have successfully completed the course are entitled to a Certificate of Completion.A Certificate of Participation will be awarded to participants who have accomplished 50% of the course requirements. Students in Europe can also get a recommendation letter for receiving TWO ECTSCREDITS.
As the e-learning course is free, this enhances access to education material on Sustainable energy planning and low carbon development in a more time flexible and cost effective manner. Course participants will have access to all materials as well as participation on relevant exercises and tools on planning for sustainable energy and low carbon urban development.
About the SUSTAIN Project
SUSTAIN is a three-year Erasmus Mundus project which aims to improve the quality of tertiary education in Sustainable Urban Development in Europe and partner universities in Asia; develop standardized education modules related to SUD and furthermore enriching them with international perspectives and academic and vocational skills and competencies; promote collaboration and international cooperation between European and Asian Higher Education Institutions in SUD.
The first e-learning course focused on Climate Resilient Urban Development which was organized by the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS), while the second one was on Transition Management In and For Cities by the Dutch Research Institute For Transitions (DRIFT).
