SUSTAIN Project Officially Kicks Off

On January 2013, the SUSTAIN project, which is co-funded by the Erasmus Mundus European programme, officially kicked off.

Through the proposed interventions SUSTAIN aims to improve the quality of Tertiary Education in Sustainable Urban Development (SUD) in Europe and partner Universities in Asia; develop standardized educational modules related to SUD and furthermore enriching them with international perspectives and academic and vocational skills and competencies; promote collaboration and international cooperation between European and Asian Higher Education Institutions in SUD but also collaboration and sharing between Erasmus Mundus programmes; establish links and bridge European Higher Education and practise in SUD, increase the employability of students and increase the visibility of and access to European Higher Education (EHE) in Asia in the field of SUD, attracting prospective Asian and international students.

The final recipients and beneficiaries of these activities will be ultimately students in Europe and Asia that will benefit from high quality international and multidisciplinary educational programmes with practical orientation showcasing how theory can be applied in practise. Lecturers in European Higher Education Institutes, Erasmus Mundus programmes and lecturers from other EHE Institutes and Asian Universities in the field of SUD will be able to access the products and outputs of SUSTAIN.

Students in Asia will be targeted by promotion seminars in order to inform them about the available EHE programmes in the field of SUD, the project’s products and practical implications of studying in Europe. Cities associations will be involved in the project in order to bring best practices in HE through relevant case studies of SUD themes but also to integrate the labour market perspective. The project objectives will be achieved by undertaking knowledge (Curriculum development, e-course), information (Development of an e-platform) and communication related activities (Organization of promotion events and workshops, e-platform).
